Deer Management Program

The Maryland National Capitol Park and Planning Commission in coordination with Prince Georges Parks has a deer management program to address issues caused by too many deer.  The following signs are currently posted in Cosca Park across Thrift Road from our community:

Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation

A sharpshooting program to reduce the overabundant population is scheduled for this park between February 1 and March 31st.  This management strategy is designed to address conflicts associated with large deer population including deer-vehicle collisions, the spread of Lyme disease, forest degradation, poor herd health, and damage to agriculture, landscaping and gardens.
The official management operations will be between 5:30pm until dawn. The park will be closed to the public during this time. Public safety is the top priority.

All harvested deer will be donated to local food banks.
